A couple of augmentation to this elegant work. Read carefully for evolved language. "We do not live on the Earth, we have a role in how this Ecosystem lives. as does." Two changes. Remove 'the' from in front of Earth. You would not say "the Wife" because that objectifies her as do 'my wife' shows ownership. Secondly. We are not 'PART of' anything. We are nestled in systems and ecosystems and we have a core role in the working of each system. 'Part' is fragmenting something alive, which kills it by dissection. Earth as a system also has a role in a Planetary system. Our language demonstrates how we fragment in our minds and then create (make up) solutions from that fragmented mind instead of learning to understand the working of Wholes and whole systems. No wonder we cannot understand climate degeneration.

And as a PS: on closer inspection I realized that I do put 'the' in front of Earth. Interesting, I wasn't aware of that.

Thank you for your reply Carol!

The 'the' was there in the quote of David Richo, I think I usually don't put 'the' in front of Earth. And of course the word 'part' is Richo's as well. But I believe that in his own he was trying to make a point similar to what you are saying. We humans often seem to see ourselves as strangers in our world, having been 'thrown into the world', as fundamentally outsiders, living 'on' Earth. And I believe Richo wants to point out that we are an inseparable aspect of the whole (is 'aspect' better than 'part'? 😊). If one sees humanity as an organ of a living being (Earth), that might also be a way of looking at it. I believe all this is what Alan Watts was referring to when he said that Earth grows humans like an apple tree grows apples... Watts also often talked about any idea or concept of separate 'things' is a human construct, an illusion. In reality, there are no separate things, and all of reality is one seamless whole.

And as you point out, our language often defines our thinking, and our concepts limit the way in which we perceive the world. David Bohm was also well aware of this, and he even 'invented' a new language to reflect the findings of quantumphysics. I believe he called this language the 'rheo-mode'. Language will always be tricky... which is why the Tao Te Chings starts with the sentence: "The Tao that can be told is not the real Tao". Like you, I believe fragmentation and separation (or the false perception of those as real) are at the core of most or all of our problems.

Again, thank you for your response, and for your pledge, as I got notice that you pledged support if I activate paid subscriptions. I am honored!

I will activate paid subscriptions at some point, I am still very much a newbie on this platform, still figuring out how things work here. 😊

I will look at your work as well, looks fascinating!

All the best, Filip
